The first review meeting of the Horizon EIC Pathfinder UNICORN (Hybrid Nanocomposite Scintillators for Transformational Breakthroughs in Radiation Detection and Neutrino Research) project took place last 6th November.

UNICORN aims to address the technological challenges in the field of ionising radiation detection, not only from a fundamental research perspective, but more importantly from a real-world deployment perspective.

UNICORN aims to develop unprecedented nanocomposite scintillator (SL) detectors based on engineered nanomaterials that overcome current scalability and performance limitations. The results of this project are expected to have a significant socio-economic impact, including medical diagnostics, homeland security, environmental monitoring, energy production, space exploration and industrial control.

The UNICORN consortium brings together world-leading research institutes and companies with complementary interdisciplinary skills, providing the critical synergy to achieve the project objectives and rapidly translate results into economic value. Glass to Power, with its expertise in the design and development of nanocomposites, is a perfect match for the vision and mission of the UNICORN project and is proud to actively contribute to the development of SL technology towards real-world applications.
