LSC - Luminescent Solar Concentrators
The inorganic nanoparticles produced by Glass to Power are incorporated in PMMA plastic sheets, to obtain LSCs (Luminescent Solar Concentrators). When hit by a photon of sunlight, these inorganic nanoparticles emit longer wavelength infrared photons and thus separate the absorption and re-emission processes.
In this way the infrared photons, trapped in the PMMA, concentrate on the edges, where they are converted into electric current through thin photovoltaic cells present at the edge of the sheet.
The Glass to Power proprietary patents developed by Professors Sergio Brovelli and Francesco Meinardi of the University of Milan Bicocca have significantly improved the LSC technology. All patents are now the exclusive property of Glass to Power.
