This case study evaluates the potential integration of Heli-On technology into a high-rise building located in Piedmont, with the objective of estimating the electrical energy production achievable through the use of photovoltaic glazing integrated into the facade. The analysis was developed considering the characteristics of the building envelope and the configuration of the glazed surfaces, in order to evaluate their contribution to renewable energy generation.
The study represents a design simulation aimed at verifying the feasibility of the intervention and the energy performance attainable through the adoption of a BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) solution, highlighting the facade's potential as an active element in energy production and in enhancing the building's overall sustainability.
For this study, the installation of the Heli-On system was hypothesized—a Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) facade solution developed to transform glazed surfaces into power-generating elements while maintaining the typical performance of insulating glass units and a high level of architectural integration. The technology combines energy efficiency, transparency, and aesthetic quality, making it particularly suitable for commercial office buildings and high-rises featuring extensive glazed surfaces.
The simulated application made it possible to estimate the facade's energy potential and evaluate its contribution to the building's energy self-generation, confirming how the integration of BIPV systems can represent an effective solution for increasing energy efficiency and advancing the decarbonization of the building stock.
